Storms hit Fishing in Devon

South Devon has beeen clearing up in the aftermath of storms which saw winds reach speeds of 82mph at Berry Head. Brixham Coastguards said the strongest gust of wind was recorded at 2.30am on Monday, when the anemometer at Berry Head spun from 51mph to 81mph - from storm force 10 to hurricane force 12.

So it was no wonder that for the very first time since Christmas Day 2006 our Devon Fishing Holiday oasis here at Newbarn Farm was quiet, very quiet not an Angler in view - not that we blame anyone - we would have seriously questioned one's sanity had they ventured this Fishing Holidays spot in Devon on Monday.

Yesterday Darren, one of our regulars not in our Holiday Cottages but for our Fishing, braved the elements early evening - not even five minutes after he had set up he was seen reeling in a 14lb carp! Well done Darren!

Local Totnes was breathing a sigh of relief as the town's flood defences came within inches of being overwhelmed. Though many fallen trees were blocking three major roads causing disruption at rush hour!

High up on a hilltop with our Self-catering Cottage & Fishing (down the hill) we were whipped severely by the high winds - suprisingly suffering with only the one casualty - a gate ripped from its hinges. Lids were blown of secure bins down on the Fishing in Devon Lakes and the colour of Island Pool was awash with the hue of red Devon sandstone. No flooding!

The South Devon coast is still on high alert as spring tides continue to pose a risk of flooding from Plymouth to Lyme Regis today but fingers crossed we have survived the worst pretty much unscathed and thanks to Darren we only have to record one day absent from anglers on our Devon Fishing Holiday banks.
