Fishing Holidays in Devon!

Casper our celebrity Ghost Carp

Mirror Lake has been seeing a lot of action recently now that the weather is warming up with the prospect of summer being a reality rather than a hopeless pipe dream!

Jim McCourt from Paignton fished Hut 1 last week and using only luncheon meet caught a beautiful Mirror carp weighing in at 25lb 12oz. Over at Hut 3, Kevin Elliot from Torquay had taken a day off work to celebrate his 30th Birthday with a day of fishing! He caught two beauties both Mirror of 18lb 8oz and 16lb 8oz on sweetcorn, always a firm favourite!

Baz Hoskins another regular used tiger-nut Pop-ups and caught 16lb 12oz Mirror and another of 17lb 6oz in the margins over a bed of pellet and bird food!!!!

Mr and Mrs Lewis from Gloucester on a Devon Fishing Holiday for a week at Newbarn Farm spent the week fishing Willow and Lily with mixed bags of perch, rudd, roach, bream, tench and the odd smaller carp of over 20lb each per day. Citing that they had had a fabulous holiday they caught over 200lb of fish over a five day fish and will be returning next year.

Jim Pike our friendly electrician was fishing on Mirror only yesterday and what a glorious Bank Holiday we had here. Jim had a very pleasurable day in Hut 7, three Mirrors of 18lb, 16lb and 14lb plus a Linear Mirror of 12lb, one 6lb Ghost Carp and his highlight of the day catching Casper weighing at his best weight to date – 21lb. Jim is pictured here with his prize.

Newbarn Farm - probably one of the best Fishing Holidays in Devon

What to do on your holidayExperience wild Dartmoor and enjoy Devon ice-cream in Paignton, or take a bird watching trip from the harbour. You can do nothing or everything from your holiday base at Newbarn.

AREA AND ATTRACTIONS
The fabulous English Riviera, commonly known as Torbay is crammed with gorgeous scenery, child-friendly attractions, and brilliant day trips to make your holiday a real success. Whatever you enjoy, you’ll find it here: from building sandcastles to walking in the wilderness, there’s an activity for every member of the family. Here are some of our favourite places to see when you’re on holiday at Newbarn.

Paignton
Think of this pretty holiday town and you might first think of Paignton Zoo. The town’s renowned attraction is multi-award-winning, most recently scooping South West Tourism’s Regional Attraction of The Year prize. It’s far more than just a zoo – this is a world-leading centre for research and conservation. 'The much publicised Tiger cubs are now growing strong and can be seen out in the enclosure now. Four bundles of cuteness! There’s plenty for everyone to enjoy – the zoo really is worth a long day out. If there’s time, make a stop at the sister attraction, Living Coasts, too.

In spring or summer, take a boat or fishing trip from the Harbour and look back on the picturesque south Devon coast, and (if you’re lucky) spot dolphins or birdlife. The more active will appreciate the wide array of watersports available from the Harbour, from diving to waterskiing.

Dartmoor
By foot or bike, Dartmoor is well plotted, with rural lanes, medieval ruins and more challenging slopes – free walking and cycling route maps are widely available (You could make use of our secure cycle storage with bike and boot cleaning facilities). A wilderness steeped in history with awesome Tors, a day not to be forgotten whether out for a quick stroll and a leisurely cream tea or something a little more strenuous sampling the wild bilberries as you go!

Further afield…
Travel from Newbarn in any direction and you will be rewarded with stunning landscapes and fresh experiences. Take a ride on the Paignton Steam Railway, where a restored steam train takes you along the coast to the estuary at Kingswear, the Round Robin takes you on a journey by rail, boat and bus through breathtaking natural scenery! You could board a connection and ride all the way to Plymouth, site of the world-famous National Marine Aquarium and classic Lido. Alternatively, why not ride at a more leisurely pace on a pony, seeing some of the most beautiful parts of Dartmoor? The possibilities are simply endless…

There is no other choice... Newbarn Farm is probably the best:
