Blondes in High Places & Holiday Cottages & Fishing on a Hill-top!

There have been some ridiculous images of Gwyneth Paltrow splashed over the pages of some national newspapers and in the glossy gossip magazines at the tail end of last week. Admittedly this star looks great for her 35 years, but does she really need to go to such an extreme to court attention! Microscopic dresses and skirts maybe on her would be OK but this coupled with the current fashion of the rich and the famous for squeezing their bunion infested feet into the 7 inch high Christian Louboutin pumps. Well I'm sorry it looks very silly and very impossible. How in the hell do they walk in them? They don't - they get out of their limousine, totter a few yards to the restaurant or function of their choice, plump a table not too far from the Ladies Power room and get carried back to their waiting cars immediately relieving their red pounding feet of these monstroities!

Lovely are they not? What beautiful works of art? They should be at an average price of £600 a pair. 'You must be jealous', I hear you say. Well actually at nearly 45, naturally I wouldn't dream of it - clearly very silly. But in my twenties I was yet another natural leggy blonde standing 5ft 8 in my stocking feet and even then I wouldn't have endorsed them. Can you image people turning up at Newbarn Farm Self-catering Cottage (& Fishing) awkwardly removing themselves from their vehicle and then falling flat on their face, breaking an ankle and sending their precious Christian Louboutins to that cobblers in the sky! And what's more for £600 you could buy a week's Devon Fishing Holiday here, say for example next week a three bedroom luxury 4 STAR Holiday Cottage sleeping 6 would cost £570, fishing in Devon for one person for the week a mere £40.

Maybe the world of glitz and glamour really has sent Gwyneth into another realm of dizzy heights, but here high up on a hill-top at Newbarn Farm we have our feet placed firmly on the ground and will continue too in our quest to provide the best Fishing Holidays in Devon, the best self-catering Cottage & Fishing, just the best Fishing in Devon.

Um! How much were those shoes?

Fishing in Devon not effected by Mortgage Crisis

Fishing lines in Devon don't Tangle

A staggering £50billion cash lifeline has been extended by the Bank of England to help banks and building societies through our current credit crunch - the eventual cost of this lifeline for lenders has been estimated, by experts to pass the £100billion mark. All to be settled and resolved within 3 years. I have to say I'm a little sceptical.

Today the nation's second biggest mortgage lender changed some of it's mortgage policies - from today, it will be impossible to get a tracker mortgage with the Abbey unless you are borrowing 75 per cent or less of the property's values, which will rule out a larger percentage of those wishing to purchase especially those unfortunate would be first time buyers.

All of this is pretty scary, some economists forecast that by the end of next of 2009 property prices could fall by as much as 20 per cent.

And if that wasn't enough we have alledgedly been informed that our yearly food bill will increase by an average of £800 per household over the next 12 months ( just over £15.38 per week).

So some of us if not most us will have to start cutting back to weather out the latest credit crunch! Cut back on expensive restaurant meals, a night out, that second holiday, a day fishing in Devon, the list goes on! Hold on a minute a day's fishing in Devon here at Newbarn Farm only costs £7.00 and that includes free fresh air, peace & quiet, genuine quality thinking time, the get away from it all factor, and a great adrenlian rush when you catch your personal best. That's pretty good isn't it?

Do you get all that from say a bottle of good wine, or one round of drinks for 3, maybe a Sunday carvery for yourself (yes just you on your own) - in monetary terms yes - but in Devon - fishing - possibly on holiday! 'On holiday, fishing in Devon' you ask. 'Cutting back you said', you say. Yes I did. We have luxury 4 STAR self-catering Cottages with fishing here at Newbarn Farm, the kitchens are extremely well equipped - even Gordon Ramsey wouldn't have much to swear about here - cook your own - he would. Saves ££££££££s, even better when you eat alfresco looking over the priceless panoramic view of Dartmoor from the garden of your chosen self-catering cottage (& fishing).

Fishing here in Devon has never been so good at at £7.00 for a full day of peace and tranquillity it really won't break the bank like our current national credit crunch!

Battery & not Battered - Fishing in Devon?

We like a nice piece of battered cod and chips here at Newbarn Farm, especially from Rio's in Brixham, by far the best you get around here these days. Well actually that's not true Richard my husband likes it but not me - I like the fish and I like the chips (occassionally) but I don't much care for the batter!

In fact we don't much care for batter used in a different context here at our Devon Fishing Holiday location - battered this, battered that, battery this, battery that. What about battery hens? Now I believe I cannot be alone in thinking that the subject of battery hens and indeed forced fed young chicks conjure up images beyond our acceptance of 'human 'rights.

If it is not alone enough for the consumer to say that actually eggs and indeed meat taken from a forced fed chick in inhuman conditions taste of well actually nothing - well maybe a bit of watery cardboard isn't sufficient in this argument (probably not dissimiliar to the pampas grass around our Devon Fishing Holiday lakes) . Incidently don't get me started on the global food price rises - how in the hell did our world get into such a mess? Greed, more greed and oh what a surprise more greed! Let's clarify that - not the let's fill my tummy I'm hungry bit - no, no no let's take what I can when I can and I don't give a diddle about anyone else's bit!

We are aware that different cultures have different culinery delights - and in some the taste of muddy waters can be a Wigilia delight! But not from our Lakes from our Holdiay Cottages & Fishing in South Devon.

Sorry I digress, battered, not battered, battery or not battery - we were talking chickens weren't we?

We have rescued 12 battery hens from a mid Devon rescue centre - and goodness me that was a good six weeks ago and they have had to stay mainly in the barn not because of the unpredictable weather but because most have only less than half the covering of feathers they should have. So they are scrambling around, in the protection of the warming hay, and in the Barn! Some of them were virtually bald - normal apparently for birds from this dark unnatural world!

But another six weeks and they will be foraging free within our 42 acres of pasture and woodland, plump, healthy and 100% feathered, they will be supplying you with your free range eggs when you stay at one of our Self-catering cottages & fishing holidays here at Newbarn Farm.

And we will be able to relax just a little that we have done a little bit to helping some battered creatures in our universe and indeed supplying a little food in the way that it was first intended.

It is only a little gesture in this odd world of cruelty fueled by price wars and something maybe a little more sinister! But we feel we do our upmost, we try with a recylcing centre, composters, energy saving bulbs, looking after our wildlife, rescuing some doomed chickens and supplying some great self-catering cottage & fishing for you here in England.

Beautifully refurbished Self-catering Cottages with Fishing in Devon

It has taken a while, blood, sweat and tears! But wow it has been worth it! We have transformed Newbarn Farm's Cottage Terrace into the 'Ritz' of self-catering. All four cottages are now of a similiar calibre to Pheasants Hide and Badgers Holt - our deluxe four star self-catering cottage - very much favoured by Simon & Yvonne (the delighted owners!).

The picture above is the first floor double bedroom which interconnects Anglers Rest and Oaktree to make up Oakrest our largest cottage which can sleep upto a maximum of 12 people. The two images below are Oaktree's master bedroom and Oaktree's dining/kitchen area.

Even Poachers, a great cottage for couples who love to take Devon Fishing Holidays as there is a huge porch to store all your fishing gear and Buzzards Bough, a firm favourite with those with dogs (large garden and conservatory all to yourselves!) are looking pretty good these days - and we haven't even started on them! Take a look below, Poachers lounge to the left, Buzzards Bough's bedroom centre and Buzzards Bough lounge right.

And do remember that you don't have to want a Holiday Cottage & Fishing in Devon to enjoy the luxury our self-catering cottages. No no no, a good 50% of our customers have never fished in their lives! And some of them don't ever want to! But plenty do for the first time when staying here as the lakes are so beautiful, calming and serene, it really is difficult not to give Fishing in Devon a go when staying in one of our luxury self-catering cottages (& Fishing) here at Newbarn Farm in Devon.

And after a long day out and about in South Devon or after a successful day fishing in Devon what better than sinking into a comfortable sofa and watching the sun set over Dartmoor from the comfort of your self-catering cottage, with beer or wine if you prefer in hand! Below:- The sun setting over Dartmoor viewed from the Cottage Terrace and Dartmoor View's Lounge - perfection!

Newbarn Farm offering you probably the best Holiday Cottages & Fishing in South Devon!
