Devon Fishing ground bait at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

http://selfcateringcottages.blogspot.com/google9ae923ee60002300.html

Hello Everyone

I have attached the catch report, sorry it is much larger than it appears but we didn't collect all the figures, so they don't count. Just click on it for the big picture.

Underneath is some ground bait information for your interest.

A Simple Ground Bait from Devon Fishing at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

At last the sun is shining here at Newbarn Farm and the fishing has picked up, with the fish taking bait from the bottom and the surface.

A simple ground bait method that we use here at Newbarn Farm and that can be used at other places is a modified pellet based one.

This is how you can make it. Get two pints of micro pellet, place them into bucket or mixing bowl, then add water to the mix. You want sufficient water to just cover the pellet. Leave the mix for about 2 – 3 hours, stirring every thirty minutes, if you can remember.

You can use other size pellets but you will need to adjust the soaking time to obtain the required consistency.

You want to achieve a doe like consistency, which will be strong enough to take any shape you want to mould it into without it falling apart.

You can also add things to this mix i.e. sweetcorn, hempseed broken boilies etc. You can also add different flavoured liquids, so experiment and see what you come up with.

Take the doe like material and mould it around a method feeder, I have shown the Korum flat in line feeder for an example.

You can see how the feeder can have the doe mix moulded around it, the design of the feeder allows you to pack the mixture into it, making a solid mass that will keep its shape.

There is nothing to stop you using the mix to pack around your weights. It may sound odd but the fish do find your hook.

Best of luck with your Devon Fishing at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

New Holiday Cottage - Great Success Story!

WOW! We have had our first few guests visitng our new 'flagship' self-catering cottage! The feedback and comments we have had, have far surpassed our exceptions - we feel very proud - and very fortunate to have had such favourable feedback! And we love Badgers Holt too!

Spurred on by such posititivity we have now embarked on a programme of further improvements.

Over the next couple of months we will be making the all important improvements to our other six cottages to make your stay here at Newbarn Farm that 'little extra special' , and I have to say we cannot wait to implement this. Catherine has already ordered new sofas, chairs and footstools for Lambs Gate and has already had fun playing with ideas for personalised wrought iron curtian rails - colour cordoraination already in place!

And don't forget Pheasants Hide - a beautiful romantic retreat - was our first deluxe cottage. Book now to take advantage of our reduced rates until 2008. Remember this was our first renovation project - and we still feel one of our best!

Catherine and Richard are already taking minor stpes on a regular weekly basis to upgrade the reminder of our six cottages, which I have to say even before this renovation are in their present presentation of a very high 4 STAR calibre.

Devon Fishing Bait & Catch at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

http://selfcateringcottages.blogspot.com/google9ae923ee60002300.html

Hi everyone

Haven't got a catch report for you today, but Robbie Deacon had a couple of Beauties, just click on them for the bigger picture, Devon fishing at Newbarn Farm Angling Centre, it doesn't get much better than this, bigger but not better.

17 lb 10 oz, Common Carp

19 lb 2 oz, Common Carp

Here is some seasonal Bait information you might find interesting for your Devon Fishing

Baits at Newbarn in the Seasons

Well here we are over half way through the year and it is meant to be hot, hot, hot. But instead it’s rain, rain, rain.

This time of year (the summer HA HA) the fish tend to go for a fishmeal type bait Trout Pellets, Squid and Octopus, M8s etc

Autumn into winter and through the winter seasons, fruity type baits seem to do well with the favourites being Banana and Pineapple boilies but never rule out the old Tutti Fruity .

Coming back to spring into summer a mix of these baits will work.

But good all-rounder will always be good old sweetcorn, maggots, worm and luncheon meats always good for all fish.

Best of Luck with all your Devon Fishing.

Come and see us at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

Teignworthy Brewery come to Newbarn

The other day we told you that Newbarn Farm was now able to sell alcohol to our fishing guests and self catering holiday guests.

Well now we have added our beer selection to a list of Cider and Wine. Now imagine having the best real ale in South Devon and probably the whole of Devon whilst fishing for Carp at our Angling Centre in South Devon.

Also after a hard days silver fishing try relaxing in one of our self catering cottages with a glass of " REEL ALE ", " SPRING TIDE ", " BEACHCOMBER " OR " MALTSTERS " ale all from as little as £ 1.76 per 500ml bottle.

The brewery based not far from our Self Catering Cottages and Angling centre in South Devon was formed in 1994 by John and Rachel. Brewing using the traditional methods and with local hops and barley.

Here at Newbarn Farm Self Catering Cottages and Angling Centre we have chosen to sell four real ales to holiday makers and anglers. So why not sample some during your next visit. Have a look at the next pictures, don't they just make you want to be here with us in South Devon fishing, holidaymaking and drinking some of the best ale in the South West.

Later we will be adding our own lable red and white wine for those with refined tastes. Come and see us for a holiday and never need to visit the pub. We have it all here at Newbarn Farm Self catering cottages and Angling centre from beer, wine and Cider. Sample the best the South West has to offer, you won't be dissappointed.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Richard & Catherine. (Just off for a cool Cider, lucky me !!!)

Devon Fishing Hair Rig at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

http://selfcateringcottages.blogspot.com/google9ae923ee60002300.html

Hi everyone

Here is some information on the Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre Hair Rig, to use with your Devon Fishing

How to tie The Hair Rig or the knotless Knot

In this article you will be shown how to tie a hair rig, also known as a knotless knot, a good knot for all aspects of fishing.

This step by step guide should show you how to make the hair rig.

1. Pull about 8 inches of line or braid off the spool, then tie a small hoop in the end of it, then feed the hooped end through the front of the hook.

2. Next pull the line down the shank of the hook, until the loop at the end of the line sits

about an inch below the bend in the hook. This length can very depending on the bait you use.

3. With the line you have left begin to wrap the line from the bottom of the eye down the shank of the hook .about 10 times then 2 times back up the shank and feed the end of the line through the back of the hook and pull tight.

4. The end result should look something like this.

The knotless knot is the same method but there is no hoop and no need for the long hair.

This is a strong and tidy knot so have a go.

GOOD LUCK !!

Regards Darren Stride Angling Centre Manager, Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

Introducing Cider, Wine & Beer

Last week we were granted our Premises Licence so now we can offer you locally produced cider, wine and real ale. Plus we have a jolly good house red and white for you to purchase between the hours of 10.00am and 21.00pm most days. The cider is probably one of the best ciders that money can buy (well in our opinion!). Anyone remember Inchs well they now trade under the name of Winkleigh Cider and are located in mid Devon where managers Richard and Catherine used to live before embarking on the adventure of running Newbarn Farm's Self Catering Cottages and wonderful fishing lakes!

The Autumn mix is a very smooth taste and at 7.5% v should be sampled and savoured, many prefer the less potent Sam's Dry which again is very drinkable.

Devon Fishing despite the weather

http://selfcateringcottages.blogspot.com/google9ae923ee60002300.html

Well I wouldn't have thought it.

Would you have thought it?

No I wouldn't have though it either

Wettest June since Noah built that boat.

I've never been so moist, yet a record catch report, I'm filling up! more moisture.

But you will have to wait, I don't have it yet, but here is a story which is better than any Devon fishing catch report.

Luke Taylor – First Fish.

My son goes to Collaton St Mary Play school and was saying to his dad outside
while waiting to go in that he wanted to go fishing for his birthday, a lady
(Catherine) stood there with her children, is one of the managers of New
Barn Farm and came back the next morning with two tickets for him and his
dad to go fishing for the day.

My son Luke was so excited with this that they went a few weeks later.
As he is only 3 years old we knew he was not going to stay still all day so
my husband and Luke's grandad went up for the day while we went out, we went
up late afternoon to meet them so Luke could have a go at fishing.

Luke walked straight up to his dad's seat box, sat down, picked up the rod,
reeled it in and said red worm please, ie maggot, then his dad helped him
cast, he let the float sit there for a few moments and then decided it was
time to reel it in with or without a bite. It was very lucky that there was
a little perch on the end for him when it come out of the water.
The excitement on his face to see that he had his first ever fish was
fantastic.

We just had time to take a quick picture before he plonked the float back in
the water saying more fish please.

We wish to say thank you to New Barn Farm for a good fishing session, the
quality of the fish is good and the site has good facilities and for letting
such a little inexperience child up there to give the sport a try, we would
recommend the site to anyone and more places should be encouraging younger
people to give the sport a try like New Barn as they are the future.

Clare Taylor – Mum.

Having a great time Devon Fishing at Newbarn Farm cottages and Angling Centre.

Thanks for the comment DR, feel free to add anything, anyone
