Devon Fishing, Carp Fishing, Fishing Tournaments, Fishing Tips, Fishing License,

Hello everyone.

Here is last weeks catch report, sorry a bit late.

That's a bit more like it.

Here are a couple of articles written by Darren, very interesting and very well done.

Back leads

Back leads are used all the time when bottom fishing for Carp.

When you have placed your bait in the desired place, the back lead is placed onto your line at the tip of your rod.

This in turn will take the line to the bottom of the lake just in front of your rod.

When this is done gently place your rod onto your rod pod and gently reel your line in until the line becomes tight, this in turn will pull the line tight to the bottom of the lake reducing the line up in the water reducing the suspicions of the Carp.

Anything to make your rig look as natural as possible will help you catch them Carp

GOOD LUCK !!

Autumn Fruits

Early last Sunday morning I was on the way out to purchase bacon and eggs for a much needed hearty breakfast; passing the field at the end of the lane I pulled up sharply, blinked and yes sure enough a sight I'ver never encountered before - still damp from birth and very wobbly on long gangly legs - a newborn foal! Absolutely beautiful! Getting back into the car I noticed the hedgerow - bushes laden with ripening sloes.

Feeling replenished from breakfast I rumaged around for the jam making pot, funnel, muslim and hunted high and low for a good old fashioned recipe for Sloe Gin!

Over the next few weeks the Aga will be working overtime! An abundance of blackberries in Newbarn Farm's hedges and plenty of apples down by the fishing lakes for Blackberry & Apple Jam; apples mixed with hawthorns for Hawthorn Jelly - a lovely accompaniment to cold meats or game dishes! I even may be spurred on to go as far as harvesting the Rosehips - not for itching powder - no! But for an old fashioned cold remedy or a refreshing drink if diluted with water - Rosehip Syrup.

But my favourite autumn collection from the farm has to the sloe berry, mixed with sugar and gin and allowed to ferment slowly will become the glorious bittersweet Sloe Gin! And just as the young foal at the end of our lane enters its second year we will be able to sample the sweet taste of one of Newbarn Farm's best!

All of our autumn fruits once bottled will be available to purchase for all our holiday guests.

Newbarn Farm's Summer Fayre debut raises £400

Even dogs needed their jackets at our first Summer Fayre but we still managed to raise hundreds of pounds for good causes!

The day before the heavens opened and we struggled to put up marquees, plan the layout and organise the carpark plus signage for the day which although it was bitterly cold the rains fortunately held off. The turn out wasn't too bad but had the sun shone as it has today we believe we would have have easily tripled if not quadrupled the monies raised! The following day on the Monday freak weather conditions caused flash flooding in Paignton and Torquay so I guess in reality we were lucky with the grey skies and cold winds!

We had a great day - children had their faces painted, bounced on the bouncy castle and more than 100 children jumped to their hearts content on the trampoline! Donkey rides in Top Field proved to be very popular and many enjoyed the opportunity to sit on a real working tractor.
Most of the resident guests from our self-catering cottages joined us for the day - some even trying out the fishing for the very first time with our 'have a go - £2.00 for half an hour, rod, landing net and bait all inclusive!' Some enjoyed the fishing so much they went back for more later on in the week.

Newbarn Farm's tug of war team were appalling - loosing twice to teams of strapping young local lads! The egg and spoon races highlighted some of the cheating tactics of the young much to our compare's surprise - alias Darren Stride, Angling Manager.

We will definitely be holding another next year and will keep our fingers crossed for blue skies and will hopefully have more stalls than this year. All we need do until then is to present our cheque for £200 to RLNI and another for an equal amount to Collaton St Mary's Primary School for much needed kitchen equipment.

Who knows we may even have candy floss next year!!!!!

Devon Fishing at Newbarn Farm Selfcatering Cottages and Angling Centre,

http://selfcateringcottages.blogspot.com/google9ae923ee60002300.html

Hello everyone

Got the Devon fishing catch report for you, plus a lovely picture, but first here is some information on why you should come to Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre whatever the weather.

Fish like low Barometric pressure

However

In an area of low pressure the air has a tendency to rise. This general upward motion means that there is less pressure from the air pushing down on the earth, in other words there is low pressure. As air rises, it cools and if there is enough water vapour it may condense to form clouds and rain. This is why a low pressure is generally associated with wet weather.

Low pressures often form on the boundary of warm and cold air. A small disturbance may cause the pressure to fall along this boundary, causing a circulation of air to develop. This is the beginning of a low pressure, and the boundaries of warm and cold air become weather fronts.

So when its raining the fishing is better.

I'm convinced! when its raining come to Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre

Self Catering Late Availability

Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre
With only two more weeks to go before the children start back at School marking the end of our peak summer season, we are amazed at how many families leave the booking of their Self Catering Summer Vacation until the very very last minute. All Summer we have have had people calling at short notice sometimes as little as the night before they intend to travel!

Why is this?

Change in the weather - a little maybe but not greatly! So far we have had one really good week all season - so this cannot be the sole reason.

Waiting for a late deal - we believe this could be a serious delaying tactic - everyone likes money off! But waiting until the last minute for this reason could mean no holiday at all or settling for something not up to expectation.

We know that all our self catering family cottages have been booked out since the beginning of June (the one bedroom ones by mid July) when the weather conditions for the Summer were unknown.

So our advice is to you - should you wish to enjoy all that Newbarn Farm Self Catering Cottages and Angling Centre has to offer and the surrounding area - BOOK EARLY to AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!!

We hate to have to say no to people - we wish we could take you all, but alas we only have the eight cottages (it was only 6 last year!)

Best of luck with your search

Devon Fishing at Newbarn Farm Selfcatering Cottages and Angling Centre

Hello everyone

Alright where did that rain come from.

Devon fishing at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre is proud to present

Wettest June since records began
Wettest July since records began
No surely not, we are not going to believe it.
We are going to have a virtual August and I don't mean virtually the wettest August since records began.
What ever the weather we are going to have sunshine inside.

Here is the catch report for last week.

For your information we have explained 9 common fishing terms.

Hook (1) A curved piece of metal used to catch fish. (2) A clever advertisement to entice a fisherman to spend his live savings on a new rod and reel. (3) The punch administered by said fisherman´s wife after he spends their life savings (see also, Right Hook, Left Hook).

Line - Something you give your co-workers when they ask on Monday how your fishing went the past weekend.

Lure - An object that is semi enticing to fish, but will drive an angler into such a frenzy that he will charge his credit card to the limit before exiting the tackle shop.

Reel - A weighted object that causes a rod to sink quickly when dropped into water.

Rod - An attractively painted length of fiberglass that keeps an angler from ever getting too close to a fish.

School - A grouping in which fish are taught to avoid your £15.00 lures and hold out for real dog biscuit.

Tackle - What your last catch did to you as you reeled him in, but just before he wrestled free and jumped back in to the water.

Tackle Box - A box shaped alarmingly like your comprehensive first aid kit. Only a tackle box contains many sharp objects, so that when you reach in the wrong box blindly to get a Band Aid, you soon find that you need more than one.

Test - (1) The amount of strength a fishing line affords an angler when fighting fish in a specific weight range. (2) A measure of your creativity in blaming "that darn line" for once again losing the fish.

Wishing you the best Devon Fishing ever.

Rod and Annette

Charity Summer Fayre

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the improvement in the Summer weather conditions are in to stay! We hope that the sun will continue to shine over Newbarn Farm's first Summer Fayre! Set to begin at 11.00am on Sunday 19th August in Home Field, we have planned fun the whole family through to 4.00pm.

A local farmer has very kindly offered to hold sheep shearing demonstrations, children can sit on a real working tractor up in the hay field and have their photograph taken. Fishing fun for everyone, lots of traditional games (sack race, egg and spoon and not forgetting the 'Tug of War'. A giant chess set will keep the more studious ones occupied and for just a little bit of fun - basketball, an adult sized trampoline and table tennis will be available. A bouncy castle and face painting for the younger ones. Traditional Arts & Crafts and local food fayre stalls, plus a huge BBQ and our first beer tent selling amongst your favourite lagers some local beverages!

So let us hope that we have seen the last of the rains for a while and that the sun will indeed shine down on us on Saturday 19th August, so that we Newbarn Farm will be able to raise funds for the RNLI and for the local Primary School.

Devon Fishing at Selfcatering Cottages and Angling Centre

Hello everyone.

Sorry a bit late this week.

I have shown the catch report for last week, sorry not all is in it.

Click on it for a larger view.

On a very serious note, we are very concerned here at Newbarn Farm Cottages and Angling Centre,
It is absolutely excellent here, we love it, the fishing is great, the cottages are great, the people are great, in fact every thing is great.
But we are very worried.
Sir Isaac said that it is a basic law of physics, that every action has an opposite and equal reaction.
There is Yin and Yang, Matter and Antimatter.
So Newbarn farm is so extraordinarily great, must mean that there is something extraordinarily horrible because of it.
We feel we must apologise to anyone who has experienced the horrible, just because our Devon Fishing and Selfcatering Cottages are so excellent.

Look below at prime examples of the spooky opposites.

Every action has an opposite an equal reaction to keep the world in balance

The Yin and the Yang.

Could it be a religious thing?

It depends on your point of view.

and remember if we had a very hot summer, there would be repercussions.

So we are sorry that you will have an excellent Selfcatering cottages holiday with us, but please remember someone else is having a horrible holiday somewhere else because of it.

Best or luck

Simon
